All the teachers at Scanbrit School of English are qualified and experienced in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). The teachers have benefited from special training courses in teaching English and have teaching experience both in the UK and abroad. Additionally, most of our teachers have university or college degrees. As well as their experience and qualifications, teachers are selected because they are able to create the special atmosphere in the classroom that enables students to feel at ease and learn English effectively and efficiently. Each class has its own main teacher who undertakes the greater part of the work and one or two other teachers who spend a few lessons per week with the group.
THE MATERIALS AND METHODS
The Scanbrit School of English syllabus has evolved from several years' of experience of teaching overseas students. The content and composition of the timetable is designed to achieve maximum benefit for the students.
A self-access listening centre is also available for students to improve their English ability in their free time. The use of video and cassettes enables students to react to real life situations in attempting to cope with a new language.
THE LEVEL AND SIZE OF CLASS
On the first morning at school, all students are given an entry test which assesses their written and listening skills. As a result, graded classes are created where the student is able to learn English in the company of other students of similar ability. At least six levels of class are always in operation at Scanbrit ranging upwards from Beginner to Advanced. Should a student feel uncomfortable in his or her allocated class, they are encouraged to discuss their needs with the Director of Studies, who will arrange a class move upward or downward if thought advisable and beneficial to the student's progress. Our maximum class size is 12 students. The average class size throughout the year is 10.
ACTIVE ENGLISH
We provide all full time students with free Active English workshops. These provide additional language practice with a teacher and help you to activate your English. There is a choice of Active IELTS, Active Speaking or Active Study, depending on your level. Active English gives you an opportunity to meet other students and make friends outside your existing classes. There is a maximum of 16 students per Active English workshop.
CERTIFICATES AND REPORTS
All students receive a Certificate of Achievement providing their attendance has been satisfactory. This certificate provides a record of the student's academic progress. In the case of students whose course is sponsored by their employers or by government agencies, Scanbrit School of English provides a regular report detailing the student's achievements and attendance.
HOMEWORK
While the emphasis in class tends to be on speaking and listening, the daily homework is the time for practice in written English, which continues and develops the work undertaken in the day's lesson.
