Scanbrit School of English actively encourages its students to participate in local social activities as another way of developing their English ability. The town of Bournemouth has many opportunities for those who wish to pursue sporting or cultural activities. In the vicinity of the School students can participate in golf, squash, tennis, fishing, sailing, wind surfing and badminton. The school office can provide up to date information about sports, theatres, discos, and travel possibilities.
On arrival at Scanbrit, all students are given a wallet containing town maps and details of social activities.
A regular programme for students' free time is organised throughout the year including:-
- Weekly video films on the school's large screen.
- Darts and table football tournaments at school.
- Lectures, debates and quizzes at school.
- Horse riding in the local New Forest.
- Student parties and beach barbecues.
- Sports including swimming, basketball, beach volleyball, tennis and golf.
- Salsa Dancing and Drama Workshops.
- Pub trips and skittle outings.
- Ten pin bowling.
- Sporting competitions against other schools (football and volleyball).
Scanbrit has its own minibus to transport students to activities. The school social activities are either free or at a very reasonable cost to cover entry prices where applicable. Professional sports tuition in most sports can also be arranged if required. Students are often surprised how much English they learn when they are relaxing in a social atmosphere with students from all over the world.
SCHOOL EXCURSIONS
At the weekends, Scanbrit regularly arranges excursions and tours to places of interest in the South of England. All of these tours are conducted and accompanied by a teacher or an experienced guide, who will explain relevant points of interest concerning English history, culture and tradition.
The excursions are reasonably priced and places visited include London, Oxford, Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Windsor, Winchester, the New Forest and the Dorset Villages.
Full details of all the planned excursions are included in the wallet given to all students on their arrival at Scanbrit.
